Raffles Statue


Sir Stamford Raffles was the founder of Singapore in 1819, taking control of the island for the East India Company to build a trading port. Marking the point on the Singapore river where Raffles landed in now a statue to the man known as the father of Singapore. The original statue was made from bronze and is currently in front of the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, the current one on site being made out of polymarble from plaster casts of the original.
