Thian Hock Keng Temple


Thian Kock Keng temple means the temple of heavenly happiness and is the oldest and most important Hockian temple in Singapore. It was built in 1839 for Chinese immigrants to visit and pay tribute to Ma Zu, the goddess of the sea, giving thanks for their safe passage to Singapore. It is built in traditional southern Chinese architectural style and as such is a national monument of Singapore.
